White House Hopes Trump Won’t Prosecute Hillary Out of Revenge

With Donald Trump set to enter the White House in a couple months, the current occupant is doing everything he can to ensure he and his cronies are protected from prosecution.

It’s been well-known that President Obama has used his office to influence who federal law enforcement targets for investigation. Conservatives will remember the IRS’s selective targeting of Tea Party and other groups just as they will recall the administration circling its wagons around former Attorney
General Eric Holder after he perjured himself before Congress. But the instance of Obama meddling that most likely stands out is its protection of Hillary Clinton.

Despite the fact that the FBI had credible evidence of Clinton breaking the law, the White House pressured and ultimately convinced director James Comey not to charge the former Secretary of State. With Trump set to take over however, it appears that Hillary’s luck is about to run out.

Speaking at the White House’s first press briefing following Trump’s victory, White House spokesman Josh earnest expressed hope that Obama’s successor would not prosecute Clinton for her many crimes.

“[W]e’ve got a long tradition in this country of people in power not using the criminal justice system to exact political revenge,” Earnest says. “In fact, we go to great lengths to insulate our criminal justice system from partisan politics.”

When Obama took office, many leftists wanted to see George W. Bush and Dick Cheney prosecuted for what they called “war crimes,” because of the use of enhanced interrogation techniques to question terrorists.

But President Obama appeared reluctant to prosecute career law and intelligence officials in the Bush administration, citing in 2009 “a belief that we need to look forward as opposed to looking backwards.”
